For the first session, pick someone else’s color scheme (one that immediately gives you visual associations) and use it to depict all three of these words:

For the first thumbnails and sketches, focus on concept and composition as we did in the previous assignment, and make notes for color allocation. You can simply write it down, use cross-hatching or markers/digital color to make mock-ups. Allow yourself to experiment in the next stage instead of planning everything out right away.

For the final, pick one of your sketches and render it in three variations:

  1. Black and white.
  2. Black and one other color from the chosen color scheme.
  3. All three colors, and no black.

Consider picking unusual or even contradictory combinations, for instance, you can try to express loneliness using a bold colorful scheme, or portray joy in muted tones. Remember that the emotions in these colors can come out in an infinite number of ways through their combinations alone. Consider also the amount of space allocated to each color, and how that contributes to the mood you're trying to capture.
